#MF7CHALLENGE (2023) Winners - 100-Day Transformation Challenge

*PRO TIP: Read everything from start to end, especially if you’re here looking for some fitspiration.

Introduction

“Pwede ba talaga maging shredded without doing so much cardio?”

“Can you really lose weight with only 3 workouts per week?”

“Can you really build muscle and lose fat with only 5-7 exercises per workout?”

“Can you really have six-pack abs eating the foods you love and without meal prepping?”

“Pwede ba talaga ma-achieve yung dream body ko while still eating RICE and drinking alcohol?”

These are the questions I always get when I recommend Minimalist Fitness Program to someone na hindi familiar sa methods ko. Since sanay sila sa “work hard only” approach, it’s understandable that their first reaction would be full of doubts and skepticisms…

“No way! 5-6 days a week ako mag buhat, masipag sa cardio, and meal prepping for 7 days a week with very slow results tapos ngayon you’re asking me to do less and expect faster gains?! Sigurado ka ba?!”

After I show them a lot of results from my method nare-realize din nila na di gumagana yung ginagawa nila currently. Buti na lang, kumakalma din sila at nakikinig. And more often than not, ang last nilang tinatanong is…

“Can I really achieve the body that I want without killing myself in the gym and in the kitchen?”

The answer is a loud YES! And the #MF7CHALLENGE results will prove you that 100%. Stick til the end para malaman mo how the winners did it.

Before I reveal the results and the 5 winners, quick backstory muna tayo. Reading everything below will help you understand pano ba yung judgment ko in picking these deserving winners.

Below is the history of the #MFChallenge. I would suggest reading this first if you're new here but if you really want to skip to the winners and results, just click the arrow..

Ano ba yung #MFChallenge and how it all started…

In September 2017, I created a 3-month transformation challenge na exclusive para sa Minimalist Fitness Private Facebook Group members. We called it “#MFChallenge”, and from that, naging yearly tradition na sya that highlights the fitness journey of MF members.

The goal of this challenge is to transform yourself in the next 100 days following the Minimalist Fitness Program. You do not have to live in the gym and grind your ass off and make fitness your only focus (you can of course, but you don’t have to). All you need to do is enjoy your life, train 3x a week using the workout routines in the book, eat the foods you love while tracking them, and just focus on what matters.

Sounds fun, right?

What made this event even more exciting is that 5 winners will be selected at the end of the 100 days, and they will take home a total of 35,000 Pesos in cash! And since a lot of the contenders will be coming from the Kaizen Transformation Coaching Program (where we combine fitness + personal development), meron tayong different set of prizes which means up to 230,000 Pesos ang cash prize if Kaizen members ang manalo sa Top 5.

Eto yung prizes if a winner comes from the MF Group:

1st prize – 15,000php

2nd prize – 10,000php

3rd prize – 5,000php

4th and 5th prizes – 2,500php each

Eto naman yung prizes if a winner comes from Kaizen:

1st prize = P100,000

2nd prize = P60,000

3rd prize = P40,000

4th and 5th prizes = P20,000 (each)

Last year was about achieving outstanding breakthroughs in the contenders’ transformation, not just in fitness but in other important facets of their lives as well. This year, it’s all about pushing further and breaking boundaries to win their best year yet.

To join, they only need to:

  1. Buy Minimalist Fitness program
  2. Submit a BEFORE photo entry following my instructions

So kung kasali ka sa Minimalist Fitness Facebook Group, you’re automatically included.

The instructions are simple: Read the book, apply the knowledge, and commit for the duration of the challenge. That’s it.

#MF7CHALLENGE Judging Criteria

Previously, ganito yung judging criteria natin:

  1. Progress: How well they’ve improved – this is the most important
  2. End Result: Final look
  3. Difficulty of the Transformation: Cut, bulk, recomp, getting to <10% body fat, etc.
  4. History: This includes your best physique in the past, how much muscle mass you were carrying at your best, experience with dieting/cutting, drug usage, etc.
  5. Votes from Other judges I’ve Selected: This ranges from acquaintances, friends, bodybuilders that I follow, and to anyone whom I think is fit and qualified to give their opinions regarding the matter

But since our family has grown bigger now (almost 14,000 members) at padami din ng padami yung sumasali sa challenge, ni-revise ko yung criteria to make sure we’re doing our best na makapag judge with fairness and quality. After all, Kaizen is one of the biggest values na tinuturo ko to my students and members. (Kaizen means continuous improvement by the way)

Now, eto na yung bagong criteria with their corresponding percentages, so contenders for next year, take note!

  1. Progress: How well they’ve improved – eto yung pinaka important.
  2. End Result / look: Their “end” look. Kung gaano kaganda yung end look nila. Example: Pwedeng nag-lose ng 100lbs ang isang contender pero madami pa din syang pwedeng i-lose (say, another 50 lbs), then di pa ganon kaganda yung “end” look nya. Now compare that to someone who only lost 20lbs pero naabot nya yung SHREDDED condition. Now that’s a much better “end” look right?
  3. Difficulty of the Transformation: Cut, bulk, recomp, getting to <10% body fat, aggressive cutting throughout, etc.
  4. Fitness History: This includes their best physiques in the past, how much muscle mass they were carrying at their best, experience with dieting/cutting, drug usage, etc. Like for example some here have gotten incredible results, pero ilang beses na nila nagawa yan, so basically inulit lang nila at walang pag-beat ng previous record. For example, kung last year eh naabot mo yung 11% body fat percentage, then this year dapat ma-beat mo yun and go for something like 9% or lower. This is the only way for you  to score higher this time around.
  5. Votes from Other judges I’ve Selected: This ranges from acquaintances, friends, bodybuilders that I follow, and to anyone whom I think is fit and qualified to give their opinions dito sa results ng MFChallenge entries.

As you can see, the #MFChallenge is not like a bodybuilding show where overall look and package yung main deciding factor. It’s a transformation challenge, so progress and/or improvement will always be the biggest factor.

With this criteria, di pwedeng sa before-and-after photos lang ako mag base. I have to dig deeper.

Although ang pinaka mataas na score is andun sa physical progress/transformation, we also considered some aspects like personal development, character development, and community impact as these are big factors too considering na Kaizen is one of the biggest values na tinuturo ko to my students

Included din yung pag ask ko for a testimonial and more photos from the contenders.

#MFChallenge Rules

– Challengers/members must have the Minimalist Fitness program and they can use it however they want.

– Challengers/members must be a member of the Minimalist Fitness Private Facebook Group, where they can ask me questions whenever they want. The more persistent you are, the more you increase your chances of winning, and that’s what the winners did.

– The 1st and 2nd placers — di na sila pwedeng sumali sa succeeding #MFChallenges anymore. Syempre, we want to give chance to others din.

– Since this is a transformation challenge and not a show, Anabolic Steroids and/or SARMs are not allowed. I have very little ways to find out though so this is more of an honesty/integrity basis. Equality and respect are two of the values we practice in our community and I’m expecting everyone in the group to act in accordance with these. If you cheat at manalo ko, will you truly be happy? I’m sure you already know the answer to that.

#MFChallenge Timeline

#MFChallenge2017

The 1st challenge started September ’17 and ended December ’17. Since we only had a few members that time, around 50+ members only made it until the end. Nonetheless, our very first event as a community was a success and the winners were awesome. — Click here to view the #MFChallenge2017 results

#MFChallengeSE (2018)

It was January 2018 when we got over to
500 members. To celebrate this milestone, naisip ko magkaron ulit ng #MFChallenge since everyone is fired up for summer. I named this one — #MFChallengeSE (SE stands for Summer Edition), and instead of 3 months, ginawa ko na syang 100 days. (January 21, 2018 — May 1, 2018). This was our 2nd challenge.

The 2018 challenge really set the bar higher as the champ (Kevin), along with the 4 winners, showcased their incredible physiques along with the 4 winners, showing doubters that it’s really possible to achieve results doing things the Minimalist Fitness way (and naturally). — Click here to see the #MFChallenge2018 results

#MFChallenge3rd (2019)

With over 3,000 members in 2019, more than 300+ entries were submitted and around 200 made it ‘til the end. After 100 days of doing the Minimalist Fitness Program and following its laid-out principles, these 200+ challengers transformed themselves by getting into the best shape of their lives.

It was a tough to select the winners for this challenge and at the end, si Champ Russell Tee yung nag title along with 4 other winners. They did this without fad diets and crazy workout routines. Best part? They did this while still enjoying life to the fullest! – Click here to see the #MFChallenge3rd results

#MFCh4llenge and #MFCh4llengeRR (2020)

With more than 5,000 members, 2020 welcomed 800+ contenders. Kahit pandemic season at madaming gym ang nagsara, push pa din yung challengers natin, showing some of the BEST results we’ve seen.

Two trends were born as the competition became intense in 2020. Those who pushed extra beyond their limits in the first 100 days of the challenge called themselves #TeamNoExcuses. Nothing can stop them from achieving their goals. Ultimately, si Enver ang nanalo and he proved that he has what it takes to be the 2020 Champion. Click here to see the #MFCh4llenge results

And since the crisis brought about unforeseen barriers in last year’s challenge, a limited extension was given to all contenders who wanted to keep competing beyond the 100-days deadline. Eto yung naging “Rebound Round” where many MF contenders were able to push further and achieve their best year yet. Si Erik naman ang nag-champ for #TeamRebound and was recognized with the 2020 winners who gave it their best to inspire, aspire, and win.  -Click here to see the #MFCh4llengeRR results

#MFChallengeV (2021)

With almost 10,000 members, 2021 proved to be one of our biggest years yet, with champ Thirdy rising to the top.  The competition was more intense, at sobrang lulupet ng results considering na home workouts pa yung ibang entries. This just proves na pwede ka magkaron ng results with or without a gym, basta sinusunod mo yung tamang fitness principles like the ones I teach inside Minimalist Fitness.  – Click here to see the #MFChallengeV results

#MFCHALLEN6E (2022)

With 13,000+ members, 2022 proved not only to be one of our best years, but this is also the first time na sa Kaizen Transformation Coaching Program nanggaling ang champion — Champy Arjhay claiming the crown.

The competition was as intense as ever, sobrang lulupet ng results from both MF and Kaizen entries. This just proves na pwede ka magkaron ng results with the right coach and program, basta sinusunod mo yung tamang fitness principles like the ones I teach inside Minimalist Fitness and Kaizen.  – Click here to see the #MFCHALLEN6E results

#MF7CHALLENGE (We’re here!)

Finally, we have reached the 7th year of the challenge and this has presented itself as the biggest #MFChallenge year with hundreds of contenders! As usual, sumakit na naman yung ulo ko in judging because this year’s transformations just keeps getting even more amazing.

We’ve been seeing some of the most fantastic results in MF and Kaizen history as the 100-day mark came closer; that’s why I can’t wait to share with you their stories of success. Make sure you read through everything here.

Here’s a teaser:

They lost weight, gained muscles, boosted their strength, and inspired the people around them. They did all these in spite of the limitations imposed by external factors.

Each winner you see here simply decided to make a change, applied all the principles they learned in the book, and stayed relentlessly consistent throughout the challenge. And take note: some (if not most) of them are also my members in the Kaizen Transformation Coaching Program where I teach them not only about fitness, but personal development as well.

Now after evaluating all entries and asking my trusted colleagues for help, I finally came up with this year’s 5 winners, and I’m going to introduce them one by one in just a moment.

So you’ve just read how how the #MFChallenge grew from an annual competition to a yearly tradition. This is a perfect way to motivate people and teach them the proven Minimalist Fitness principles, and it also lets me give back to everyone who invested their time, money, and effort in applying everything that I teach. Now, yung part na pinakahihintay mo…

The #MF7CHALLENGE Results

Before I officially introduce to you the Top 5 finishers of #MF7CHALLENGE, let me first applaud the 17 contenders who made it to the roster of the most epic results of the year. These folks really gave it their all so they deserve to be recognized.

Since everyone who got in the Top 17 were from Kaizen, we followed the criteria of the Kaizen Coaching Transformation Coaching Program. And since Kaizen is fitness + personal development combined, we also considered some aspects like personal development, character development and community impact as these are big factors too that no one in Kaizen can neglect. In other words, it’s not just about body/physical transformation.

(Just click the image to see their before-after transformations)

You now have your top 5 picks? Take a moment to view each of them and make your choice.

Hirap ba? I know.

My Judging Notes:

– Judging these entries was far more difficult now than it was last time considering the number of participants. Apart from that, madami talagang magaganda yung results. If I could just make all them placers, I would.

– I asked all the challengers for testimonials right after the challenge and long before these results came out, so what you’ll be seeing below are their legit reviews of their overall MF journey.

– I included their overall progress as many of them were sending me progress photos and videos from time to time.

For those whom I haven’t been in contact with that much throughout the challenge, to be fair to them, I also asked them to submit some of their progress photos or videos, if they have one. That way, I can clearly see each and everyone’s whole development. I included those in my overall judgment.

With that said, I will be showing not only their before-after entries, but their other progress photos as well so you could see the basis of my decision.

Meet The Top 5

Now that you’ve seen the top 17 challengers, let’s move over to our 5 winners

But before that, grab ko muna yung opportunity na ‘to and say congrats to all the contestants/challengers who mustered their courage to join and show their vulnerable side (their before photos) to me and to other people. As someone who was very insecure about his own body, I know that taking topless pictures when you’re not confident with how you look isn’t a pleasant feeling, let alone show it to others.

Also, I want to congratulate everyone for giving it their best — for reading MF kahit di ka mahilig magbasa; for going to the gym 3x a week even when you’re not feeling it; for resisting a lot of urges and temptations to quit and binge eat like most of us used to; and for living up to the challenge of being in this amazing community of winners, always looking for ways to overcome circumstances whenever a new obstacle makes the journey even more difficult.

Kahit hindi madali, you still endured and stayed committed to the challenge.

For this, I salute all of you!

Sobrang proud ako sa milestones and progress nyo, and I’m honored to have been given even the slightest credit for your results.

As someone who’s passionate to teach fitness to other people, it’s great to be part of another person’s successful fitness journey.

So now, eto na yung Big 5 winners of #MFCHALLEN6E. I hope their stories will inspire you to make your own transformation happen starting NOW.

Note: Take inspiration from the stories and successful results of these people and remember to write your own fitness journey. Your results will vary based on different factors, but what’s most important is they are yours.

5th Place

Ernest Mark Gapan

Starting weight: 63.0kg or 138.84 lbs

End weight: 54.0kg or 119.04 lbs

Total lost: 9.0kg or 19.8 lbs

From an insecure, overweight, depressed, and lost boy, Ernest turned his life around and transformed into a man full of self-love, optimism, and drive.

Pero na nga ba nya naabot ‘to?

Before all this, madaming challenges si Ernest. Bukod sa extra weight, he felt bad about himself, kagagaling lng from a tough breakup, and had low self-esteem.

And even though 2021 pa sya member ng Minimalist Fitness, di pa din nya na-achieve yung physique na gusto nya.

All because of Ningas Kugon, Yoyo Dieting, and being a Jack of all Trades yet master of NONE.

But everything changed when Ernest started this 100-day journey. Bukod sa MF, nag join din sya sa Kaizen –  my Fitness + Personal Development Coaching Program.

With that, nagkaroon si Ernest ng simple daily routine – this routine helped him stay on track and also allowed him to save time on fitness and other areas of his life as well.

Not only that, nagkaroon din sya ng  supportive community and this is where Ernest started to see himself in a new light.

He realized he had the power to change his life and become the person he wanted to be. And after 100 days?

Nag pay-off na lahat ng hardwork ni Ernest.

By putting in consistent effort and using the program’s tools, he made remarkable progress. So remarkable that it landed him 5th place in this MFChallenge!

Kung dati palagi syang sad, worried, anxious, and depressed, well not anymore.

He’s now a confident and empowered person, ready to conquer any challenge that comes his way.

Today, Ernest encourages others to stop comparing themselves to others and to instead focus on their own progress.

Moreover, he shares that it’s important to recognize your own weaknesses and fears.

Facing them head-on is the first step towards growth.

Ernest also emphasizes the value of having supportive friends and coaches who believe in you.

Kung similar yung pinagdadaanan mo ngayon sa buhay, remember Ernest’s journey.

Believe in yourself, surround yourself with people who have the same goals as you, and be patient with the process.

For sure, kasunod na dyan yung results!

Congratulations, Ernest!

4th Place

Carlo Jay Agngaray

Starting weight: 67.0kg or 147.63 lbs

End weight: 61.4kg or 135.45 lbs

Total lost: 5.5kg or 12.18 lbs

Carlo Jay, or Carlo for short, has been a Minimalist Fitness member since 2018.

Yes, tagal na!

In fact, blog days pa yun ng MF pero nagkaresults na si Carlo during those times.

But life happened, the pandemic happened, parenting happened, at naisantabi ni Carlo ang fitness.

Life became a cycle of fatigue, boredom, and mindless scrolling through social media after work. He gained weight and developed bad habits.

Carlo knew he needed a change. So binalikan nya ang MF and fortunately, nag decide din sya to be part of my fitness + personal development program, Kaizen.

In his 100-day journey, na realize ni Carlo that “everything is interconnected” – what he did in one part of his life affected other areas too.

Natutunan nya din yung importance of planning ahead and making adjustments pag kailangan.

Little by little, na replace nya yung bad habits nya with good ones, focused on better execution sa fitness, and adopted a proactive approach in his daily life.

After 100 days, something amazing happened. Naabot ni Carlo yung single-digit body fat percentage meaning ripped na ripped sya!

At na-achieve nya ‘to while still balancing other important areas of his life, including yung pagiging good example for his daughter.

And with that, Carlo Jay’s hard work and dedication paid at nag 4th place sya in this MFChallenge.

For him, Minimalist Fitness and Kaizen showed him that planning ahead, working hard, and having a positive mindset are the keys to success.

The journey itself became the most important thing, and he embraced a new way of thinking that helped him in his career, relationships, spirituality, and finances.

So if you want to have your own transformation too, eto yung ma-aadvice sayo ni Carlo: let go of your old beliefs, believe in yourself, and adopt high-level mindsets not only in fitness but in all aspects of life.

Well said!

Congratulations, Carlo Jay!

3rd Place

John Carlo Delos Santos

Starting weight: 65.0 kg or 143.31 lbs

End weight: 55.5 kg or 122.46 lbs

Total lost: 9.5 kg or 20.85 lbs

Meet John Carlo, our 3rd placer for this year. Believe it or not, 22yo ‘bebeboi’ (as friends and colleagues lovingly call him) wasn’t always into fitness.

In fact, he always thought na hindi para sa kanya ang fitness, na pang ‘academics’ or ‘school’ lang sya kase hindi naman sya nasanay maging athletic kahit nung bata pa sya.

Anyhow, John Carlo tried different ways to get fit (even before he joined Minimalist Fitness in 2021); stuff like 100 pushups every day, HIIT sa YouTube, and even ‘tread-milling’ araw-araw.

Pero kulang sya sa consistency and focus.

Bukod sa wala masyadong progress, hirap din sya i-balance yung studies with personal growth so ang ending, nauwi lang sa pagtatry lahat.

But then, everything changed when he got MF, and later on, discovered Kaizen.

By following a simple yet effective program, he achieved amazing results!

The program’s sustainability, combined with progressive overload, proper form sa workouts, flexible food choices, and consistency sa execution, made him believe that he could maintain this healthy lifestyle for the rest of his life.

In this 100-day journey, na realize ni John Carlo that if he set big goals and worked hard, kaya nya ‘to ma-achieve lahat.

That the journey is just as important as the end result.

That being a champion is not just about winning, but also about having a positive attitude and trying to improve every day.

Aside from that, he also proved to himself that sharing his journey and being honest with the right people (and community) made him feel supported and encouraged.

And kitang kita naman sa results nya – deserve na deserve and 3rd place!

To top it all off, nakuha nya yung transformation na yan all while improving his relationships, strengthening his faith, and becoming a summa cum laude candidate in the process.

Today, John Carlo continues to inspire others to be determined, to have a positive mindset, and to always plan ahead para ma-achieve din nila yung goals nila.

He encourages everyone to set big goals, work hard, and enjoy the journey along the way.

His story, including his 3rd place in the MFChallenge, shows that with the right mindset and support, amazing things can indeed happen in 100 days.

Finally, here are some words to live by from bebeboi: “SET IMPOSSIBLE GOALS AND YOU’LL EXERT IMPOSSIBLE EFFORTS”.

Congratulations, John Carlo!

2nd Place

Jayson Petate

Starting weight: 64.1 kg or 141.41 lbs

End weight: 55.0 kg or 121.24 lbs

Total lost: 9.1 kg or 20.17 lbs

From inuman kung saan saan, ML na walang katapusan, at pwede na siguro yan…

to 8-pack abs, champion mindset, and a better person overall..

That pretty much sums up Jayson’s journey. But you know there’s more to it, right?

Lahat tayo we want to be better people. Jayson, a regular guy just like you, felt that way too.

He used to think na ok na yung sakto lang, when deep inside, he knew he could do more than just being mediocre.

One day, he decided to make a change and started an incredible journey of personal transformation.

Dun nya na discover yung idea ng continuous improvement or Kaizen. It meant always trying to be better and never settling for mediocrity.

And so Jayson joined the MFChallenge and Kaizen with the goal of not only changing his body, but his life as well.

With the help of my program, nag set sya ng specific goals and followed through. He lost the excess fat and focused on building muscle.

Even though there were distractions and temptations, Jayson stayed focused on his transformation and didn’t let anything get in his way.

Now? Jayson is reaping the fruits of his labor – a ripped physique that’s primed for bulking, which is one of his dreams.

In addition, na-earn nya din yung second place in this year’s MFChallenge, showing everyone how much he had worked and grown in the last 100 days.

Not only that; mas focused na din sya ngayon on what he wants, he’s kinder to other people and to himself, and he’s also more aware of his own potential.

Lastly, Jayson shares that being fit is not just about looking good but also about being strong, healthy, and confident –

and that taking care of your body is the first step towards improving other areas of your life.

Congratulations, Jayson!

1st Place

MF7CHALLENGE Champ - Zeph

Mark Joseph Dugang

Starting weight: 71.2 kg or 157.05 lbs

End weight: 58.4 kg or 128.87 lbs

Total lost: 12.8 kg or 28.18 lbs

For the longest time, Mark Joseph, or Zeph, has struggled with body confidence and self-esteem.

Sa sobrang struggle nya, inaavoid nya yung situations na kailangan magtanggal ng shirt sa harap ng ibang tao because of his physical appearance.

Life for Zeph was indeed tough. He was overweight, and insecure, and thought he could never succeed in fitness.

Pero di sya sumuko. He wanted to transform himself. To become healthier. To have more confidence.

And so joining Minimalist Fitness was just the beginning. Nung makita nya yung coaching ko about fitness plus personal development combined, dun na parang nag ‘click’ lahat para kay Zeph.

This guy just did it and put in the work, day in and day out. Kahit na introvert sya, he engaged with the community to offer and receive support.

Sinunod nya din yung diet and workout plans as recommended by me and the other coaches inside Kaizen.

Zeph admits that they’re simple but highly effective. And most importantly, sustainable.

Because what good is a fitness program kung di naman sya sustainable enough for you to get results, right?

The funny thing is, when Zeph first found out na sya yung champ this year, he thought he was dreaming. Na baka panaginip lang ‘to lahat.

Because never nya na-imagine na magkakaroon sya ng ganitong klaseng level of success in his fitness journey.

But all of it is true. He’s the #MF7CHALLENGE Champion, and his name is forever etched in MF history!

Moreover, the MFChallenge + Kaizen experience has allowed Zeph to discover his ‘ikigai’, the meaning of which is to inspire others to reach their own goals and potential.

Today, Zeph strives to inspire others with his transformation, especially those people na may same or similar experiences like him.

Lastly, Zeph shares that it’s important to make adjustments para ma-overcome yung challenges sa fitness journey mo.

By being flexible and adaptable, mas ma hahandle mo sila more effectively and you’ll keep on progressing as well.

In his own words: “This ability to make adjustments and adapt to changing circumstances is a valuable skill that can be applied not just in fitness, but in all areas of life.”

Spoken like a true champion and may you continue inspiring others with your story!
